Wordpress Assignment

Flowchart due Tuesday, Nov. 22
Final project due Tuesday, Nov. Dec. 6

Assignment options:
1)    Choose to build the exact site shown in the demo (with some of your own modifications, as required).
2)    Build a content site that parallels the content in the demo site. The site must contain the same amount of content and same types of content, and all other requirements apply. This can be any content, including your portfolio. If you choose to work on your portfolio, you CANNOT submit a site that you’ve already built.  It MUST be a Wordpress site.
3)    You can build this project using 100% Flash, if you’d like to continue to work on your Flash skills. Work with the instructor to replace certain site content (such as Flickr feeds) with Flash-based parallel content.

Demo site: http://joggingdemo.wordpress.com -- Note, this demo site is not completed, and will be built during class sessions for demonstration purposes.

Populate your site with the following content:

1)    Home page to introduce the web site. This should include a photo of Christopher McDougall, and a text summary (about one paragraph) of who he is.
2)    A navigation area named “New York Times” to host The New York Times article, “The Once and Future Way to Run”.  This area should include the headline, the byline (author’s name and publish date), located at top, just as it is arranged on the NYTimes.com site. You’ll have to problem solve on this, as the story is too long for one page:  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/06/magazine/running-christopher-mcdougall.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=the%20lost%20secret%20of%20running&st=cse
3)    A navigation area named “How to Run” hosting the “How to Run, One Stride at a Time” graphic, but in an animated format (swf will not work). Use makeagif.com or MySpaceGens (limited to 3 images, but good controls) or Google "animated gif maker" and find your own. Ensure this content area has a headline.
4)    A navigation area named “The Book” devoted to the author’s book, with an Amazon link to purchase the book. This means you’ll be setting up an Associate account with Amazon! Book information can be found at Amazon, and here: http://www.chrismcdougall.com/book.html.
5)    A navigation area named “The Author” with a bio and photograph of the author. Include one video from his book web site.
6)    A navigation area named “Contact” that includes all of the contact information from his web site (http://www.chrismcdougall.com/contact.html) as well as links to his flickr and Facebook pages (his Twitter account is inactive).
7)    Another navigation area that you decide – it should be related to running.
8)    Include a Flickr widget for borntorunchris’ photostream:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/thenakedtour/
9)    Include a search widget.
10) Include another widget of your choice.
11) Choose a theme that you think is appropriate for the content of the site. You must add your own image as a header or background. Do not tile your background image – if you choose to incorporate a background image, it must be big enough to handle the height of the page, without tiling.
12) You must set up your site to be seen on mobile devices.
13) You must set up your site to have an iPad-specific format. This format must include a specific iPad image.
14) Your site should be set up with share tools, including Facebook, Twitter, email and print. You should disable all commenting options.
15) Once your site is complete, host your site at http://lamer.jottit.com/jogging.
